D2 Townhouse is a 5-story Georgian dwelling in a conservation area of Dublin, now largely commercial. The building is distinguished from its neighbors by a substantial garden containing one of the few remaining original coach-houses in Dublin, highly significant in conservation. D2 Townhouse is JM’s first solo project. Discovered in a state of dilapidation, with insensitive, utilitarian additions, the building needed returning from its recent office use into a single family home.Save this picture!© Tim CrockerThrough dialogues between art, design, science and fictions, historical references and contemporary technological techniques, we amplified and revived its spatial drama. Through deep engagement with the family, the house’s history and its context, we attended to every detail. Our aim was to make each space distinct, with a palpable atmosphere.Save this picture!© Tim CrockerSave this picture!Axonometric SectionSave this picture!© Tim CrockerInformed by the building’s existing patterns, forms and, above all, light, our strategic, minimal extensions are conceived as inhabitable windows, reflecting, refracting, and drawing inhabitants between areas. We designed key items of furniture to work architecturally, magnifying tones and augmenting spaces while leaving historic fabric intact. Materially, our bespoke cast iron cladding, laser-etched steel floor, mirrored reveals, brass overlays and burnt wainscoting contrast brightness and deep shadow.Save this picture!© Mitsuko MoulsonSave this picture!Proposed SectionSave this picture!© Tim CrockerOur unique thermoformed Corian and concrete kitchen, opening onto the garden, is geological – its rippled surface absorbing and diffusing light. Our cantilevered quartzite toilet, above the winter garden, melts into the sky. Installing innovative sub-basement ventilation, bat cavities and planting for biodiversity, we also look to the building’s future as a multi-referential home, restrained and flamboyant, for all kinds of lives.Save this picture!© Tim CrockerSave this picture!PlansSave this picture!© Tim CrockerProject gallerySee allShow lessPublicity of the Preliminary Qualification Review Result for the Bidding of Curator …Architecture NewsAurora Terrace / BC ArquitetosSelected ProjectsProject locationAddress:Dublin, IrelandLocation to be used only as a reference. Eddie Vedder & Judd Apatow Hilariously Honor Garry Shandling At Bonnaroo 2016 [Pro-Shot]

first_imgToday, Billboard debuted a new video featuring Eddie Vedder and one of the most prolific comedic film producers of this century, Judd Apatow, onstage together at Bonnaroo 2016, which Pearl Jam headlined. The clip is part of a promo push for Apatow’s new two-part HBO documentary, The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling. The two-part project takes a deep dive into the life of his late mentor and comedy legend Garry Shandling with help from various famous friends and family members.During Judd’s scheduled “Judd Apatow & Friends” set at the festival’s Comedy Theater, Apatow explained, “I’m gonna bring out a friend and we’re gonna sing a song together in honor of my friend, Garry Shandling,” before Vedder strolled onstage to a chorus of cheers. As Eddie Vedder got set up with his music stand and acoustic guitar, Apatow explained, “Garry Shandling was my mentor. He gave me my first job. I wrote for the Grammys for Garry. And then I wrote for The Larry Sanders Show for Garry. … When he passed away we found these big stacks of diaries and journals, some of them very personal and some of them just filled with jokes. And when I was asked to do Bonnaroo, I said [to Eddie Vedder] ‘would you want to do this show?’ And Eddie said yes. And then the other day I said ‘what do you want to do?’ And he said ‘I was thinking about taking all of Garry Shandling’s writings and turning them into a song.’”Continues Apatow, “So then Eddie sent me a video of the song, and it was amazing. It’s a combination of his journals and jokes. And today I said ok let’s listen to the song, and he no you’re singing it with me…which is kind of not what anybody wants, not me or you [laughs]. But there is something nice about sharing our love for Garry…so I’m gonna sing this with Mr. Vedder.”The two go on to perform the song together, with Vedder handling the “very personal” writings, and Apatow peppering in the aforementioned stacks of jokes (like “My friends tell me I have an intimacy problem, but they don’t really know me” or “I shave one leg so it feels like I’m sleeping with a woman”). The result is a thoroughly enjoyable performance that’s at once hilarious and sincerely heartfelt by a couple masters in those respective specialties. You can watch the video below, courtesy of Billboard:Judd Apatow and Eddie Vedder In Concert – “Dear Mind” – From The Journals of Garry Shandling – Bonnaroo Comedy Theater – 6/11/16<span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span>[Video: Billboard]The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling is on HBO now.[H/T Billboard]last_img read more

Indonesia reports new H5N1 death

first_imgAug 4, 2008 (CIDRAP News) – An official from Indonesia’s health ministry recently confirmed that a 19-year-old man died from an H5N1 avian influenza infection.Nyoman Kandun, director general of communicable diseases at the health ministry, said the man died last week in a hospital west of Jakarta, according to an Aug 2 report from the Associated Press (AP).The man, a cargo worker, died in Tangerang, a suburb of Jakarta, Xinhua, China’s state news agency, reported yesterday. If his death and another reported last month are confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the man would be listed as Indonesia’s 137th H5N1 case and its 112th death.Media reports gave no details about the source of the man’s infection or whether his personal contacts have undergone medical evaluation. The confirmation of the man’s death by an Indonesian health official appears to deviate from the country’s recent policy of foregoing official announcement of H5N1 cases as they occur, opting instead for periodic updates. In early June, health minister Siti Fadilah Supari said the country would announce cases at longer intervals, perhaps as long as 6 months, according to previous reports.Though Indonesia’s stance appears to raise questions about its compliance with International Health Regulations, WHO officials have said its relationship with the country remains good and that the delay in reporting has not hampered the ability to conduct joint investigations into Indonesian H5N1 cases.Healthcare workers and family members alerted the media about Indonesia’s last H5N1 case, that of a 38-year-old man who reportedly died on Jul 10. However, a health ministry spokeswoman declined to confirm the case and said officials would release the information in an H5N1 case update at the end of July. No updates appear to have been posted on the government’s health ministry or avian influenza Web sites. Also, it’s not clear if Indonesia has notified the WHO about the two cases. The WHO has not yet confirmed the illness and death of either man, so for now the group still lists Indonesia’s case count as 135 cases and 110 deaths. Indonesia leads the world with the most H5N1 cases and fatalities. The WHO’s world H5N1 count stands at 385 human cases and 245 deaths.See also:Jun 5 CIDRAP News story “Indonesia quits offering prompt notice of H5N1 cases”last_img read more
