MANCHESTER, England (AP): Jamie Vardy tied the English Premier League record for scoring in consecutive games to help Leicester City climb surprisingly to the top of the standings yesterday when English football paid tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks. The England international’s goal, which set Leicester on its way to a 3-0 win at Newcastle, meant he has scored in 10 straight matches – a feat Ruud van Nistelrooy also achieved for Manchester United across two seasons in 2003. Leicester only narrowly avoided relegation after a sensational finish to last season, but are upstaging England’s major powers after 13 games of this campaign. Manchester City and Arsenal, who started the weekend tied for points at the top, both lost and were also overtaken by Manchester United, which needed a 90th-minute own goal to beat Watford 2-1. City conceded three goals in the opening 32 minutes and lost 4-1 at home to Liverpool, and Arsenal lost 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion, with Santi Cazorla missing a late penalty to tie the game. Chelsea beat Norwich 1-0, thanks to Diego Costa’s second-half goal, ending the champions’ three-game losing run and easing some pressure on manager Jose Mourinho. The French national anthem was played before all eight Premier League games to honour the 130 people killed in the Paris attacks, with England’s top division resuming after the international break amid tightened security. Vardy picked up where he left off two weeks ago, shrugging off an injury that forced him to withdraw from England duty last week to score in first-half injury time with a low shot inside the near post. Vardy’s scoring run began against Bournemouth on August 29 and the hard-working striker can break Van Nistelrooy’s record by scoring against Man United in what is now a top-of-the-table match next weekend. “I’ve managed to get there, let’s see what happens next week,” said Vardy, who was sent a good-luck tweet by Van Nistelrooy ahead of the match. He was playing non-league football only four seasons ago, but is currently the top scorer in the Premier League with 13 goals and reportedly attracting lots of interest from top clubs. Leicester have only lost one league game this season under new coach Claudio Ranieri, who took over in the summer after the team won seven of their last nine games last season to survive. COACH PROUD “I’m very proud because the players play like a team, suffer, run and play good football,” Ranieri said. In a stunning first-half display of high pressing and livewire attacking, Liverpool cruised into a 3-0 through Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and goals by Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. Fit-again Sergio Aguero replied in the 44th for City, but Martin Skrtel’s 81st-minute volley clinched a very impressive win for Liverpool and their new manager, Juergen Klopp. Watford striker Troy Deeney scored a 90th-minute own goal, soon after converting an equalising penalty, to gift Man United victory at Vicarage Road. Netherlands winger Memphis Depay – playing as an emergency forward to solve the side’s striker shortage – put United in front in the 11th minute. Also, Everton beat Aston Villa 4-0 courtesy of doubles from Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, who became the fifth player – after Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo – to reach 50 top-flight goals before the age of 23. Stoke beat Southampton 1-0 away and Swansea rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Bournemouth.

Before the Warriors play the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 3 of the Western Conference on Saturday, though, Thompson might not want to swim here.“You want to go to the …

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes Maurizio Sarri must drop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to send a strong message to other players.Kepa blatantly refused to be subbed off in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City, which sparked controversy at the club. The Italian manager has tried to calm the incident by insinuating it was a misunderstanding ahead of a crucial game against Spurs on Wednesday night. However, Merson who played under George Graham has advised Sarri to learn from his former boss by replacing Kepa with Willy Caballero.“I think the manager has to stay strong and tell him he’s not playing – he’s got to,” he said on Sky Sports Debate.“If you’re the manager then you’ve got to tell him you’ve shown me no respect otherwise the rest of the players will be thinking ‘wow, come on’.”Merson equally opened up on how he was instantly punished by Graham after disrespecting the former Arsenal manager.Match Preview: Wolverhampton vs Chelsea Boro Tanchev – September 13, 2019 Wolverhampton will host Chelsea at the Molineux Stadium in one of the most interesting Premier League games this weekend.🗣️ Kepa and Maurizio Sarri speak out as Chelsea announce that Kepa has been fined a week’s wages for his actions on Sunday pic.twitter.com/RR0aXItLWX— B/R Football (@brfootball) February 26, 2019“I laughed at him once and I didn’t play for two months,” he said.“And, we played Huddersfield in the League Cup and I walked straight down the tunnel. The Netflix logo is pictured on a television in this illustration photograph taken in Encinitas, California.ReutersShares of Netflix Inc soared 11 percent before the bell on Wednesday after the company put fears of a slowdown in growth to bed by racking up 7 million new subscribers between July and September. The video streaming pioneer shocked Wall Street last quarter by falling short of new subscriber estimates, but Tuesday’s figures put its total customer base at 137 million worldwide, 2 million more than consensus forecasts. At least eight brokerages raised price targets on the stock, with three of them, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Raymond James, raising them just two days after trimming.”We don’t believe in ‘open-ended growth stories.’ But, darn, NFLX is about as close to one as you can find in today’s market,” RBC analyst Mark Mahaney said in a note.Analysts pointed to the streaming giant’s ‘solid trends’ in India, and said homegrown shows there like Sacred Games and Ghoul bode well for future growth as it ramps up across some of the developing world’s most populous markets.”NFLX shies away from talking about anyone international market too specifically, but it called outgrowth in Asia, and we believe India is becoming a bigger factor,” said JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth.Goldman Sachs raised its price target by $50 to $480. The brokerage had earlier cut the price target to $430 from $470.Shares of the company were up 11 percent at $384.51 before the bell.

Iraqi forces search the site of a suspected mass grave containing the remains of victims of the Islamic State group, near the former al bakara military base in south west of Hawija. Photo: AFPMass graves containing at least 400 suspected Islamic State group victims have been found near the former jihadist bastion of Hawija in northern Iraq, the regional governor said Saturday. The string of grisly discoveries was made at a military base around three kilometres (two miles) from the city that the jihadists “turned into an execution ground”, said Kirkuk governor Rakan Said.“Not less than 400 people were executed,” he said, adding that some were clad in the uniform of prisoners condemned to death while others wore civilian clothing.IS was forced out of Hawija — 240 kilometres north of Baghdad-by Iraqi forces in October in a sweeping offensive that has seen the group lose the vast bulk of territory it seized in 2014.As government troops have advanced across Iraq they have uncovered dozens of mass graves holding hundreds of bodies in areas that fell under the jihadists’ brutal rule. The burial pits near Hawija were discovered “thanks to witness accounts from local residents” given to the Iraqi military, General Mortada al-Luwaibi said.Saad Abbas, a farmer from the area, told AFP that during the three years of IS control the group’s fighters could be seen “driving around in cars with their prisoners”.“They would shoot them and then throw them to the ground or burn their bodies,” Abbas said.

Growing a business sometimes requires thinking outside the box. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory took a photo of the sun every 12 seconds on July 6th, and the results aren’t quite what you’d expect. A time-lapse video of the images makes it look like the sun is doing a somersault, because the SDO was spinning 360-degrees on one axis when it captured them. The observatory performs the seven-hour maneuver once a year to take an accurate measurement of the star’s edge. See, the solar surface is pretty chaotic, and the spacecraft has tough time finding its outermost layer while it’s stationary. SDO’s images were taken in extreme ultraviolet wavelength, but NASA colorized the sun in the video below, so we can see it tumbling in space.
