Andy Ruiz Jr. shocked the boxing world on June 1. He was a massive 11-1 underdog coming into his fight with British superstar Anthony Joshua, and most analysts believed that Joshua would make short work of the challenger. Ruiz proved to be more than anyone expected, though, rebounding from being knocked down in the third round to knock down Joshua four times on his way to winning the unified heavyweight title. MORE: Follow the latest odds and betting trends with Sports Insider His most impressive victory to date came the following year when he dropped Wladimir Klitschko to unify the heavyweight division. Joshua added the WBA and IBO heavyweight belts to his waist by beating Klitschko in a thriller at Wembley Stadium, and he acquired the WBO title in 2018 when he beat Parker by unanimous decision. He went on to defend his four titles successfully only once before his loss to Ruiz. What’s next? This is the deepest we have seen the heavyweight division in years, and the winner of this bout will likely be involved in the class’ biggest fight in 2020. If Ruiz can beat Joshua again, he will likely face the winner of the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury rematch in February, in what could be a full unification title fight. A Joshua victory could lead to a long-awaited bout with either Wilder or Fury, or he could decide to make it a trilogy and take on Ruiz for a third and final time next year. A win would make him the most marketable boxer in the division, giving him the opportunity to make any fight he wanted. It was the best fight of 2019 so far, and a rematch was essentially guaranteed. The two heavyweights will meet in what is being labeled as the “Clash On The Dunes” Saturday afternoon in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The action will start with the undercard fights getting underway at noon ET, while the main event is slated to begin at 3:45 p.m. ET.The WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles will be on the line, and the bout will be exclusively shown on DAZN in the United States and Canada. Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua 2 oddsAlthough Ruiz won the first fight, he is still an underdog on Saturday afternoon, according to the latest boxing betting odds. Joshua is a -205 favorite in a bout that is not expected to go the distance. The odds on the fight lasting all 12 rounds are +250, and the over/under for the number of rounds we will see has been set at 7.5.Join DAZN to watch Ruiz vs. Joshua 2 & 100+ fight nights a yearCan Andy Ruiz Jr. pull off the upset again?Ruiz has been overlooked throughout his professional career. Even with a record of 28-0, he was unable to get marquee prize fights, and it appeared that he would never get his moment in the sun after a loss by majority decision to Joseph Parker for the WBO heavyweight title in December 2016. He took over a year off before entering the ring again, but he came back with a fury. Ruiz knocked out Devin Vargas in the first round in March 2018, and he proved he had the stamina to go the distance in a win by unanimous decision over Kevin Johnson four months later. An impressive win over Alexander Dimitrenko set up the first fight between Ruiz and Joshua, and Ruiz took full advantage of the opportunity.Ruiz comes into the rematch with a record of 33-1. He has knocked out his opponent in 22 of those fights, showcasing his raw power, but his quickness is his real calling card. Ruiz catches opponents off guard with how fast his hands and feet move, leading to some improbable knockouts.MORE: Ruiz vs. Joshua 2 odds, pick, prediction, betting trends & prop betsAnthony Joshua is out to reclaim his beltsJoshua was heralded as the best heavyweight fighter in the world prior to his loss to Ruiz. The 6-6 boxer is the prototype of a heavyweight champion, and he seemed set to rule the division for a decade prior to his stunning defeat. The former gold medalist is 22-1 in his professional career, and 21 of his victories have come by knockout. Joshua’s dominance as an amateur led to him being placed on the fast track to greatness, and he won his first major belt back in April 2016 when he defeated Charles Martin by knockout in the second round to claim the IBF strap.
“We’ve got a head coach who we know for 10 years has been saying, ‘We’re focused on Tuesday. Today. That’s all we’re worried about is having the best practice today that we can possibly have,’” Aikman said. “And that’s been his messaging throughout, and the owner’s talking about getting on a run and winning the Super Bowl.”Added Aikman on that subject: “You’ve got a head coach who comes down and says we’re going to evaluate the kicker, and then the front office says right after that — probably in a press conference right outside the locker room — that they weren’t evaluating the kicker. All those things have an impact, and it slowly trickles down.”MORE: Mapping out Garrett’s future in DallasGarrett, 53, has taken the majority of the heat as Dallas has limped to a 6-6 record heading into its Week 14 “Thursday Night Football’ game in Chicago; enough that Sporting News is already wondering who might replace him should Jones decide not to extend the coach’s expiring contract after the season.Though Jones has said he does not plan to fire Garrett before the end of the year, the 77-year-old team owner hasn’t exactly been gushing in his support of the coach. Aikman on Wednesday allowed that “coaching hasn’t been great at times in certain situations” for the Cowboys in 2019, but he added, “the front office hasn’t been great in allowing the head coach to do his job, either.”Aikman has a unique perspective of Cowboys operations considering he was drafted by Dallas a few months after Jones purchased the team in 1989. He quarterbacked the Cowboys to consecutive Super Bowl titles in 1992 and ’93 under coach Jimmie Johnson and again in 1995 under Barry Switzer. It was clear, Aikman said Wednesday, that those coaches were the bosses in a way Garrett evidently is not.”It starts to take away some of the authority of the head coach,” Aikman said. “And it’s been going on for 20 years, and at some level there’s players that start feeling that, ‘Oh, okay. (Jones) is the guy who’s really calling all the shots.’”I think there’s some organizations that truly would do everything possible to win, they just don’t really know where to begin. And there’s different ways to do it. And I certainly understand that. But in Dallas, Dallas knows how it was done. I know how it was done. It was done with a really strong head coach who the players knew that that’s who they had to answer to.”And for some reason that model changed, and it hasn’t been very effective for a while.”MORE: Garrett’s seat among hottest in NFL One of the human beings most qualified to criticize Jerry Jones’ management of the Cowboys is doing just that.Fox NFL analyst Troy Aikman, who in 2006 was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a result of his 12-year career as Dallas’ quarterback, naturally was asked Wednesday about the struggling Cowboys during his weekly radio spot on KTCK The Ticket in Dallas. When speaking his way through the myriad of issues plaguing the team that has lost three of its last for games, Aikman, 53, brought up the disconnect in Jones’ messaging at it relates to that of coach Jason Garrett. Aikman also mentioned Dallas’ playing talent is not the problem — an assertion with which Sporting News certainly agrees considering what we thought of the Cowboys entering the 2019 season. Jones, though, can no longer take the credit for the team’s astute roster-building. In Aikman’s estimation, vice president of player personnel Will McClay “is the one doing the general manager work” for the Cowboys.Dallas, 6-6, amazingly still leads the NFC East over 5-7 Philadelphia. If it wins the division, it will host a wild-card playoff game, likely against Seattle or San Francisco. Given that nonsensical seeding and the way the Cowboys have played of late, a deep playoff run is unlikely. Many believe the absence of such success will lead Jones to part ways with Garrett. Yet based on Aikman’s criticism, the franchise’s issues are unlikely to be fixed with a coaching change.
Peter Kafka at All Things D adds that the deal was done with equity, not cash. When SpinMedia bought Spin, then-CEO Tyler Goldman was initially circumspect about the print magazine’s future, but this time around Steve Hansen, who replaced Goldman as CEO in late 2012, says Vibe the print magazine will likely be shut down by the end of the year.Vibe, launched in 1993 by Quincy Jones, was most recently owned by The Yucaipa Johnson Fund, a partnership between Ron Burkle and Magic Johnson. Ruderman: I think that’s part of working with multiple brands — there is no average day. There are weeks when I focus much more on one or two or three brands. It’s rare that I spend a day thinking about every single one of them in equal parts. It’s really more about where the need is. Ruderman: Adding on to that, one of the really cool things about working on different brands is that you get to take the learnings from one brand and apply it to another, and that’s something that you just don’t see happening at a more siloed organization. In the last year alone, Time Inc. and Condé Nast have both announced restructurings that break down some editorial and sales silos to create a more organic workflow between their various magazine brands. If you think creating a magazine is hard work, what about creating a dozen? While the job description for today’s content creators has steadily grown to include everything from Snapchat to virtual reality, now many publishers have teams that produce content across multiple magazine titles. Ruderman: Everything is very different, not just between each brand but between each program. So talking about putting together content strategy for World’s Most Beautiful is different than the content strategy for Sexiest Man Alive, even though those are both at the same brand. Lee: From a cross brand or multibrand standpoint, we have very strong and respected brands, and when you bring them together, there is a multiplier effect that I think we hadn’t truly unlocked before we started working across them. This interview was lightly edited for brevity and clarity. Ruderman: Everyone is on Slack, and there’s every kind of Slack group you can imagine, broken down by team, by department, by digital desk, by brand. It’s constant communication, from the editorial assistant level to directors and beyond. There’s a lot of mixing and sharing of content and assets there. Folio: Any last thoughts? Ruderman: It’s a mix of both. Whether it’s editors-in-chief, or digital directors at specific sites, we work very closely with a lot of them. When it’s more project focused, like with [Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit franchise], there are people very rooted in the brand who we’ll work with, as well as cross-brand people. Folio: So what does your average day look like? In years past, we might not have figured out how teams could play that story off of each other. But with good cross-promotion and very sharp social strategy, it became a pretty significant phenomenon for People and Sports Illustrated. Lee: It’s exactly like Zoë said. There truly is no one typical day. One of the challenges from a management perspective, when you work with a number of brands, is really making sure they’re pointed in the right direction and really understanding what are the KPIs and the vectors for growth. Because that’s why we’re doing this — it’s ultimately to drive growth. The one thing that is very constant with every day is reviewing where we’re are in terms of roadmaps and progress. That happens on a daily basis and multiple times a day. Folio: Walk me through what each of your roles are and how they have changed over the last few months? Folio: Now that you’re all working together, is there any competition between the titles? I mentioned Snapchat earlier — right now we’re really focused on Essence and EW within our portfolio because we’re getting ready to launch on Snapchat, but it’s so varied. For me, it’s a lot of working with sales and marketing, and evangelizing our brands, going out on sales calls, dealing with partners like Snapchat and Wishbone. It’s very different every day which is what makes it so exciting and interesting. Ruderman: Both Will and I work across all style, entertainment, and sports brands. In some ways, us having multiple channels on Snapchat mimics what the structure editorially has become over the last six months or year — whether it’s our digital desks who are thinking topic-wise rather than just brand-wise, or people like Will and myself who are thinking about multiple digital platforms and multiple brands. Lee: We want to think of Time Inc. as having very big and ambitious goals, so everything that we do, whether it’s cross-brand or with individual brands, has to ladder into those goals. While strategy may differ slightly from brand to brand, all roads should lead into the Time Inc. philosophy; that’s a pretty significant departure from how Time Inc. has been organized and strategize in the past. So how do these multibrand content creators juggle the workload? To find out more, we sat down with Zoë Ruderman, executive director of content strategy, and Will Lee, group digital director, who both work across style, entertainment and sports titles at Time Inc. With the digital desks that we rolled out, those are people who are leading from a category perspective. Someone who’s rooted in one brand but they’re also thinking about content across different sites within one category, so we’re also working with them. The People Snapchat Discover channel features cards with celebrity coverage, as well as content from another Time Inc. magazine, Sports Illustrated. Folio: Do you work with content creators at individual brands or only others on cross-brand teams? Lee: On the tech side we went from having, when I arrived a couple years ago, 12 different CMS’s. And now have two. News and entertainment brands are on WordPress and the lifestyle and sports brands are on Drupal. Lee: Sports Illustrated, for instance, did this photoshoot with Christie Brinkley and her two daughters. It was a very successful, and the day that the photos were unveiled, it was the number one story, video and gallery on Sports Illustrated. [Separate coverage of the same topic] was also the number one and number two story, article, gallery, and video on People. Folio: Let’s talk logistics. How do you manage working with so many different teams? Ruderman: I think there’s always heathy competition. Even within the brands to some extent. Everyone wants their content to do well. That said, I think we’re excited to see other brands win, partially because we can learn about it and partially because we’re one Time Inc. Lee: Hopefully we’re all pulling in the same direction; the idea is not to be a portfolio manager and to try to load balance; the idea is to truly use the multiplier effect. Folio: Do you have one Time Inc. content strategy?

Apple released the next major iOS update, iOS 12.2 beta 1 to developers on January 24, 2019. This update boasts of features like custom downtime scheduling, as well as major updates to PWA. Custom screen time scheduling According to a report by 9to5Mac, iOS users will be offered a custom downtime scheduler in the latest iOS update. Users will now be able to adjust the Screen Time feature per the days of the week. Although previous iOS versions had a similar downtime scheduler, it was limited to be applied every day. With iOS 12.2 beta 1, users can either choose to use the same schedule everyday, or customize it depending on which day of that week it is. You can use it by navigating to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime. PWA improvements Apple has made major improvements to Progressive web apps by introducing new features for developers. Mike Hartington, developer advocate for Ionic framework gives us a glimpse of new improvements in a tweet. New experimental features include Web Auth, Web Animations, WebMeta, pointer events, intersection observer etc. Service workers are removed from the experiments list and are enabled by default. External sites are loaded via SFViewController. This means authentication flows and still work without leaving the PWA. The current state of any app is maintained, even if the app goes in the background. You can view the native app as well as the PWA of the same app in the search. Users are generally excited for Apple making improvements to its PWA. A comment on Hacker news reads, “This is great for user rights and moves the needle more towards a decentralized and open ecosystem, while maintaining strong security guarantees to the end-user.” However, users also want Apple to consider supporting Push Notifications for PWAs.
