WMS games tonight:Â Wellington basketball teams will be playing their final regular season games before the year-end tournaments tonight against Mulvane.The schedules are as follows:Girls – home, 7B 4 p.m, 7A 5:15 p.m., 8A 6:30 p.m. Boys – away, 7A/8B 5 p.m, 7B/8A 6:30 p.m. By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow â€” The Wellington Crusader girls basketball team placed third in the Mulvane Wildcat Classic, the junior high wrestlers place fourth in Augusta, Wellington C teams host a Saturday tournament, and Wellington Middle Schoolers finish off the basketball regular season tonightâ€¦. WHS girls basketball â€”The Wellington varsity girls basketball team finished off the Mulvane Wildcat Classic with a 34-26 victory over Clearwater in the third place game Saturday afternoon.This was a big win as far as sub-state seating was concerned. Wellington had lost to Clearwater earlier this year in league play. The Crusaders are 8-4 for the season.Wellington opened with a 9-4 first quarter lead and held a 19-8 advantage at the half. The Crusaders opened up a 31-14 lead in the third. The Crusaders had trouble scoring points in the fourth getting outscored 12-3. But a lot of the younger players were in at that time.Savannah Cornejo led all scorers with 16 points. Other scorers include: Kailey Jenkins 6, Carlie McComb 6, Shanlyn Hefley 2, Megan Amrein 2, and Sydney Shields 2.Cornejo and Jenkins were named to the all-tournament team. Close Forgot password? They beat Circle and Augusta, two 4A schools, but lost to many Class 6A and 5A schools.Six boys medaled:â€¢Wiseman at 95, placed third.â€¢Glover at 100, first.â€¢Nuss at 115, fourth.â€¢Ferguson at 141, second.â€¢Kop at 185, fourth.â€¢McComb at 215, fourth.
